Alabama Death Certificate Apostille

If you need an Alabama-issued Death certificate recognized in another country, an apostille is required. This service ensures your document meets all state and international authentication requirements for use in a Hague Convention country.

Why This Document Requires an Apostille

For international use, the death certificate must be authenticated so its origin can be verified by the receiving authority.

Apostille Process

  • Request an Apostille copy from the Alabama Center for Health Statistic
  • Submission to the Alabama Secretary of State
  • Apostille issued for international use

Apostille Copy

Death certificates are confidential records with restricted access for 25 years from the date of death. These records may be obtained by the following persons:

  • Person named on the certificate
  • Mother or father (or legal guardian) of person named on the certificate
  • Husband or wife of person named on the certificate
  • Son or daughter of person named on the certificate
  • Sister or brother of person named on the certificate
  • Legal representative of an authorized person

Turnaround Time

Processing time varies based on state processing volume. Expedited facilitation options may be available.

Important Notes

  • Documents must be properly certified before submission
  • Apostilles are only valid for use in Hague Convention member countries
  • Non-Hague countries require a different authentication process
