Understanding Ink Fingerprinting and Fingerprint Card Requirements

Ink fingerprinting involves capturing rolled and flat fingerprint impressions directly onto a fingerprint card. The FD-258 is one of the most commonly used fingerprint cards, but it is not the only card used for ink fingerprinting.


Government agencies, licensing boards, employers, and other requesting organizations may require a specific fingerprint card or format. Some provide their own card, while others instruct applicants to use an FD-258.


The requesting agency determines the card type, number of cards required, information that must appear on the card, and how the completed fingerprints must be submitted.


McCurty Apostille & Notary Services provides ink fingerprinting on FD-258 cards and other agency-required fingerprint cards. If your requesting agency issued a specific fingerprint card, bring that card with you to your appointment.

Preparing for Your Appointment

Fingerprinting typically takes only a few minutes. If an FD-258 fingerprint card is not provided, one will be supplied during the appointment.


  • Have a valid government-issued photo ID available at the time of service.
  • Provide any required agency information, including an ORI number.

Our Print Quality Guarantee

While rejections are uncommon, if the requesting agency notifies you that your fingerprint cards were rejected due to fingerprint quality, we will re-roll your fingerprints at no additional charge.

If your requesting agency provided fingerprint cards, please bring them to your appointment. Otherwise, standard FD-258 fingerprint cards are available when accepted by your requesting agency. 

Yes. On-site fingerprinting is available for businesses, organizations, and groups. Service is scheduled based on group size and location. Visit our Employer Fingerprinting page for service details and quote requests. 

Your fingerprint cards are completed during your appointment and returned to you at the end of service, ready for submission. 

If your fingerprint card is rejected solely due to fingerprint quality, we will re-roll your fingerprints at no additional charge. Rejections for any reason other than fingerprint quality are not covered under our Print Quality Guarantee and will require a new appointment at the applicable fee. 

Yes. Appointment availability is shown online. If you do not see a suitable appointment time, call or text to inquire about additional availability.
